Assembly City
The redevelopment of Brickell Key comes at the hand of the threat of sea level rise due to climate change and the increased effect it will have on Miami. Due to this threat, Assembly City proposes the complete abandonment of the island itself, and a return to its natural mangrove habitat. To accommodate a rising population while still dealing with the reality of a rising ocean, a series of component “islands” raised on pilotis were created, each with its own designated program, to create a self-sustainable urban system that is fully expandable through the aggregation of new island clusters on the peripheries of the existing pattern.
